River Practice holds CPD evening for local general dental practitioners – a focus on implants and prosthetics
The River Practice Specialist Dental Centre in Truro held the first in a series of continuing professional development (CPD) evenings for dentists on Friday 17th January. The focus of the evening was a presentation by resident implantology expert Dr Philip Bennett entitled ‘Simple Implant Prosthetics for General Practitioners’ whilst Martin Docking, from Precision Dental Laboratories in St Agnes, Cornwall, gave an overview of the laboratory’s work in processing implants and prosthetics.
The evening was sponsored by Ankylos – a dental implant system by Dentsply Implants – and was attended by general dental practitioners mainly from dental surgeries local to River Practice in Truro, Cornwall. Attendees were credited with 2 hours of continuing professional development which is a compulsory requirement of registration of the General Dental Council – one of the strict requirements is that dentists must carry out at least 250 hours of CPD every five years.
The objective of the evening was to inform local dentists of their options when presented with patients who require implant or reconstructive work. This could involve working with River Practice implantologists, Philip Bennett and Vali Mirzayan, to provide a solution for simple cases or referring the entire case, if complex, to the River Practice team for full treatment.
Dr Bennett is widely recognised as a world expert on dental implants – obtaining the ‘European Expert in Implantology’ award from the European Dental Association in 2010 – and has taught in many countries across the world on the subject. Patrick also has a wealth of experience of placing implants with over 1000 completed to date. Both implantologists are Fellows of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Lisa Holmes, Practice Manager at River Practice, said: ‘We were really pleased with the first evening in our CPD series for 2014 and the feedback received from attendees has been very positive. The evenings have been planned as a way of demonstrating to local general dental practitioners how the specialists here at the River Practice can supplement the treatment available to patients, as well as a way of helping them to build CPD hours. We are looking forward to the next event planned for end of February/beginning of March’.
River Practice Specialist Dental Centre will be undertaking a series of talks throughout 2014 for general dental practitioners. To register your interest, please email Lisa Holmes, Practice Manager, on Manager@riverpractice.co.uk.
